Welcome
to the Division of Biostatistics at the Saint Louis University
School of Public Health. We offer a Biostatistics concentration
in our MPH and PhD program, and a joint Biostatistics and Epidemiology
concentration in the MPH program. We are fortunate to have strong
faculty, staff, and graduate students in our school and graduate
programs in biostatistics.
Biostatistics
provides the methodological tools for designing and conducting
public health research, clinical studies, and epidemiologic investigations.
We provide a solid training in biostatistical theory and applications,
exposing our students to a variety of prevention, intervention,
and etiologic investigations. Classroom teaching, consulting and
project work, as well as personal mentoring are priorities among
our faculty. We are involved in a variety of projects such as
field surveys of pregnant women attending WIC clinics in urban
and rural Missouri to estimate the prevalence of mental disorders,
and evaluate their impact on healthy birth and utilization of
services; GIS mapping of tobacco advertising and distribution;
genetic modeling of disease; vaccine efficacy; and other interesting
and methodologically diverse applications.
The
major strengths of our program include training well-equipped
graduates, prevention-focused research activities, a strong commitment
to the Jesuit mission with an emphasis on social justice and the
elimination of health disparities, diversity of students, and
partnerships with academic units and community organizations and
agencies. These partnerships include local and state health departments,
the CDC, governmental agencies, and various clinical departments
including the Vaccine Center, as well as strong interdisciplinary
collaboration with the faculty both in the School of Public Health
and in a variety of academic units at Saint Louis University and
Washington University in St. Louis. These partnerships provide
outstanding opportunities for students to gain hands-on challenging
experiences for doing biostatistics and developing professional
skills.
We
hope that you will explore the exciting field of biostatistics
